With the holidays upon us and most of us planning for things differently this year due to the global pandemic and others of us also mourning due to unexpected loss, I pray that we do not lose sight of where our thanksgiving is rooted – in Jesus.
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” – Colossians 2:6-7
Jesus is the cornucopia of our thanksgiving.
God provides us with grace and new mercies every day because of his great love for us through Jesus Christ. So let us thank him for being our good, providing Father and our constant strength, whom we are rooted and built up in.
We abound in thanksgiving in prayer, in our serving of others, and in rejoicing to God because of who God is and who he is to us, not because of our circumstance. To us, God is our Father who loves us intimately, God is our King and Savior Jesus, and God is our ever-present friend, Holy Spirit.
Let us use the unusual circumstances of this holiday season to establish our faith even more in Jesus Christ. Let us pray in unison that the Holy Spirit be invited into each of our homes this holiday season so we may receive from the cornucopia of Jesus before we receive from our plates and from others, abounding in true thanksgiving to God.
Whether we gather with broken hearts, tidings of great joy, or remain in isolation due to health restrictions, may we each abound in thanksgiving in prayer and praise to God for having received Jesus and being able to walk with him in all circumstances, every day.
